The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India. It consists of 836 islands grouped into two island groups: the northern Andaman Islands and the southern Nicobar Islands, separated by a 150 km (93 mi) wide channel. Port Blair is the capital and largest city of the territory, located about 1,190 km (740 mi) from Chennai and 1,255 km (780 mi) from Kolkata in mainland India. The islands are sandwiched between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east with the northern-most point located 901 km (560 mi) from the mouth of Hooghly river. Indira Point at 6°45’10″N and 93°49’36″E at the southern tip of Great Nicobar is the southernmost point of India.

Cellular Jail

This three-storeyed prison, constructed by Britishers in 1906, is a pilgrimage destination for freedom fighters. This colossal edifice has mutely witnessed the most treacherous of inhumane atrocities borne by the convicts, who were mostly freedom fighters. Now dedicated to the nation as a National Memorial.

Rose Island

“Chidiya” in Hindi means bird. Kalapathar beach is a long stretch of white silky sand with big black rocks beside the blue sea. It is situated on one corner of Havelock and is a continuation of beach No. 5. The beach can get a bit crowded in high season, but if you walk further to the south you’ll find yourself completely alone. There is a small lodging path through the green jungle, where once was an elephant training camp, but nowadays all you’ll find is a secluded beach.

Elephant Beach

Elephant Beach is one of the most popular destinations in Havelock Island, due to its serenity, clear water, and water sports. The beach is located 8.6 KMs from the jetty and is considered the water sports haven of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is located at a secluded part of northern Swaraj Dweep, which has to be reached either via a boat or trekking through the forest. The area itself is quite mesmerizing. Placed between dense tropical jungles, the beach is covered by tall trees and greenery from all sides, which opens into a wide beach, complemented by white sand.

Bharatpur Beach

Bharatpur Beach is simply the best beach in Neill Island, that is both tranquil and picturesque. Located just 500 meters from the Neil Island jetty it is a perfect place to enjoy time with your friends and family. The soft white sand beach lines the shore, along with a crystal clear shallow waters, that continues for almost 500 meters into the sea, making it one of those beaches where you can simply go halfway without being wet completely.

Lakshmanpur Beach
